Spending Too Much Time In One Place
This is by far the biggest mistake or should I call it a blunder that people generally spend too much time in a specific city. Let’s take an example of Rome, although it’s a great place to be and it offers a lot to its visitors but usually people spend 5 to 7 days and by doing that they have to compromise on something else.
Rome is the capital of Italy and there are tons of exotic places to see here like the Vatican City, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain, etc. I know that you don’t want to do it in a hurry and these places demand some time but plan your trip in such a way that when you are on your way back, you fly with memories, not with regrets.
Trying To Do Too Much In A Day
Well, contrary to the above-explained scenario, here come the people who try to get as much as possible and are always in a rush. That’s even more stupid. You can’t just do everything in a day no matter how hard you try, something will be skipped. I highly recommend not to burn out. Visit a place and do justice with it. All of this is possible when you make a plan, make a list of places you want to be, it does not mean that you plan to do Rome and Venice in one day. Some places demand your presence like the colosseum. You need to mentally be here to enjoy it otherwise it’s just an old building. A guided tour group would be better to learn about the insights of the Colosseum and Gladiators and why it was known as the biggest amphitheater.
Afraid To Rely On Public Transport
If you are reading this then you might not be a millionaire that can afford a taxi or private transportation. In any country, the first and foremost option is public transportation. If your country doesn’t have a proper public network it does not mean that it’s the same everywhere. Italy’s bus and train network is pretty reliable and train is by far a better option for intercity transportation than booking a plane ticket. Florence, Venice, Naples or Rome, every city can be easily accessible by bus or train and its affordable and convenient too. Even small towns in Italy have a better local transport network.
Try Booking Online Tickets
In this modern era, no one wants to waste their precious time and waste time standing in long queues. Italy is also pretty convenient to offer skip-the-line tickets for its tourists. Places like the Vatican city museum, the Rome Colosseum, the Uffizi gallery, the dodge’s palace, and Michelangelo’s David are the few busiest places and Italy is welcome for its kind gesture.
No one wants to stand in line and waste their time, most people are here for a week or two and they don’t want to waste two hours daily on each spot and wait for their turn. In these situations, this practice also helps in social distancing.
Learning Their Language
Tourists often speak in English which is fine. But if you see tourists in your country trying to have a conversation with you in your language, then this is much appreciated. And it depicts that they are honoring your country’s tradition. It also comes in pretty handy when talking with locals and greeting them or thanking them in their language. Speaking in their language and using a little bit of accent shows that you are a local, not a tourist.
Overlook Less-Visited Spots
Its often seen that tourists focus on famous places like the Colosseum, the Vatican City, or Venice’s canal. Also, the tourist group has a list of popular places as people usually pay for them. For me, it’s a mistake as a country have a lot more than these famous places and sometimes, you will enjoy more in these less famous and hidden places as you can enjoy these places peacefully. Also research before visiting someplace and get good knowledge about the opening and closing time as this pandemic has changed the visiting hours too.
Book A Package Tour
If you are with your family and don’t want to drag them in tight spots then you should consider booking a package tour. Look for few trip organizers and pick the one that suits your needs, this will let you enjoy the place and your mind will be free from all the fatigues. Some tour groups also offer one or two days free and you can do whatever you want in that free time and make a plan of your own. Italy is a crowded country and you will get tired of making reservations in hotels, restaurants and booking tickets of places to see.
So to save yourself from such a fuss, book a spot in a group and who knows you may find like-minded people and this also save the cost of hiring a guide at every other famous place. But if you are here for long then you have to manage everything on your own.
